Welcome to SEAMA

The South East Marine Association (SEAMA) was formed in 2001 with the aim of promoting the use of the River Medway as a conduit for leisure and commercial marine business.  In 2009 the company was reformed to incorporate and attract new members from a wider south east catchment area.

Members of SEAMA operate marine related businesses throughout the length of the River and south east coast ranging from international companies to small private enterprises, shippers to wharfingers and those meeting the demands of the growing marine leisure industry.

The River is one of the most important arteries for the transport of bulk and specialist cargoes encompassing gas, coal, aggregate, containers, forest products, fruit and newbuilt cars all of which supports  considerable employment along its banks.  SEAMA continues to support the development of new wharves but with equal importance it is determined to protect existing riverside commerce through a process of education and awareness ensuring that the people of Medway and the South East and those in a position of influence understand how vital the River and coastal ports are to local businesses, goods transportation and the leisure industry.

SEAMA has already proven to be an effective organisation having been instrumental in bringing the views of River and port users to the attention of local and regional councils and helping a number of organisations in their negotiations with the statutory authority.  A significant activity since 2004 has been involvement with plans for the Rochester Riverside development whilst increasing the visibility of the association’s aims and ambitions that underlines the importance of this artery for the trade and employment it facilitates as well as its aesthetics and impressive history.
